So, this was an interesting day. We went to bed at Henrys Lake State Park in Idaho, it was cold but tolerable. We woke up to SNOW. Like, an inch of it! The weather disturbed the electricity at the campground, so we had no electric or city water when we woke up! It was crazy!

We got things together and started our drive north to Glacier National Park in upper Montana. This national park has been on my list for the longest time, and has been the #1 place I wanted to visit during our trip! The drive there wasn’t anything special- mostly just fields and fields of grasses and cows. There were a few towns we went through, but mostly just the fields. Near Dupuyer, MT was the strangest sight. I didn’t capture a photo of it, but there was a 200 or so foot long fence that was LINED with teddy bears! I had thought maybe it was a memorial. When I looked it up, it was some weird story about bears passing through the holes in the fence so the townspeople started putting teddy bears up to poke fun at the person who owned the fence. It was odd. Look it up!
We entered Glacier National Park on the East side, at St. Mary’s. It was seriously already pretty gorgeous. There is a river running run through the little town of St. Mary’s, and their park entrance sign is probably the coolest one we have seen so far! We stayed at St. Mary’s campground, which was barely just inside the park. It was set on the side of a mountain, and each campsite was slightly tucked behind some trees so it felt pretty private!

When we entered the campground, they gave us tons of papers on being safe around bears. We had heard this all before during other camping adventures we had together, and have a good bear story of our own. However, our camper was quite literally being parked in bear country. Notice in the bottom left corner of this picture the bear scat left at our campground. I guess you can’t get any closer to nature than this!

We set up camp and decided to walk around a little to find where the bathrooms and showers were. While I was inside getting the inside of the camper together, Scott was outside dealing with the truck and camp set up. He starts yelling at me to come outside. Supposedly, there was a red fox that came right up to our camper, hid under our truck, and then ran away right when I came outside. Now, I saw supposedly because Scott and I have been in a competition of who can spot the coolest animals. I had seen a red fox earlier in our vacation as we were driving and it pounced on something. So when he claims to have “seen a fox” right there by our camper, I was a little skeptical. 😉
We took our walk around the C loop of the campground, and as we were walking around, we saw the MOST impressive animal sighting of the trip. If you have read our previous posts, you will know that there is one animal we have been looking for since last summer on our trip to New York/Maine. That animal, is a MOOSE! That’s right, a moose right inside our campground. It was so awesome to see! We knew moose were in Glacier National Park, but didn’t think we would see one since we had been unsuccessful so far! It was amazing!

We got back to camp and made dinner and had a fire. It was super windy, cold, and started raining.
I wasn’t pleased.
We eventually went inside to go to bed. We watched a movie that got done around 10:30. We had no idea the time, and when we saw it were amazed. Does the sun ever set up north? It was so late, and I couldn’t believe we still had daylight! What an impressive start to our Glacier National Park experience!
