Day 12- Entering Greater Seattle Area

Today is our “engagement anniversary!” Last year on this day, Scott and I hiked up to the top of Mount Marcy in the Adirondack mountains of upstate New York where he proposed 🙂 It’s crazy to think that a whole year has gone by since we got engaged! Our wedding is fast approaching!

Today, we are headed to Tinkham Campground in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, just east of Seattle. We will be staying here 5 days, our longest stop yet. One of Scott’s best friends from high school lives in Seattle, so in addition to visiting Olympic National Park, we will be spending a couple days with Pete and his wife, Jessica.

Scott and I have had sort of a “wildlife spotting” competition going on our entire trip. We are always trying to one-up each other in finding the coolest wildlife. Today, Scott was victorious as he spotted a Bald Eagle! The rest of the drive to Tinkham was pretty boring.

We arrived at the campground, set up camp, then headed into town to do laundry and run a few errands. The laundry mat we used was expensive, but incredibly clean and very secure (I think we counted 10 cameras??) After laundry, we headed to Issaquah to go to the REI and Target. We wanted to check out some gear, but ended up getting myself a pair of hiking shorts and Scott a pair of “pant-shorts.” I had thought that those pants with the zipper at the knee to turn into shorts were finally out of style, but apparently in the hiking world, they are still in! We headed back to camp, got our packs ready for our venture to Olympic National Park where we would be tent camping for a night, made dinner, and went to bed early! Perfect vacation day!
