This is it! The final post of Vacation 2019! Condensing these last days won’t be too difficult, as the Petrified Forest National Park was our last major stop on the trip.
We woke up at the KOA in Grants, NM and looked out the windows to see that our campground had lava rock EVERYWHERE! We had pulled in so late the night before that we didn’t even notice it! Really cool! We drove to Albuquerque, NM where we had planned to stop for lunch. Scott’s uncle Dan and aunt Karen live there and we wanted to visit on our travel home. We went to this really yummy Mexican restaurant (it was nice eating food that we didn’t have to cook! It was nice for me to meet his uncle and aunt, and good for Scott to see them again!

Our drive this day included driving through the upper part of Texas and then through Oklahoma City. This was a night where the KOA we found was full and we didn’t feel like driving anymore, so we ended up sleeping in a Pilot Travel Center parking lot. Seemed logical at the time, but in reality Oklahoma is HOT and HUMID. It was not a restful night.
The next day, we drove through the rest of Oklahoma, crossed the Mississippi, and saw the Gateway Arch. We continued through Illinois and Indiana (at this point, we just wanted to go home! We got to a point where we had to decide to either stop at a KOA just outside of Ohio, or drive 5 more hours to get home around 2 am. It had already been a long day, so we decided to stop at the Richmond KOA. Again, pulled in late and in the dark!

The next morning was a quick trip to get back home. We were excited to get back to a place we knew, an actual shower and bathroom, and of course the kitties and Freddy!
Even with this blog, we cannot put into words how amazing our trip was this summer. The amazing things we saw, the memories we made, and everything in between will forever be with us. We are so lucky and grateful to have had this time together! Next summer- follow as we go to Colorado, Utah, and Nevada!
